Construction Company COVID-19 Decontamination in Sheffield

Situation

Our clients offices and welfare areas had a staff member report a positive COVID 19 case and were concerned over the offices and wanted to ensure the areas were decontaminated. The enquiry was taken from the Site Project Manager on the morning of the 28thJune 2021 – with a preferable attendance that day, so the offices could be returned to work.

The prompt response from their management team meant Ideal Response were on-site the same day to begin decontamination works to all affected areas; offering protection to staff members and other personnel within the complex.

In preparation for the decontamination work to begin, the client had moved the staff to remote working until the offices were decontaminated; ready for a suitable return.

Scope of Works

The scope of works specified were to complete a Covid Decontamination following positive cases in the clients offices. There were six offices (measuring approximately 324 square metres) to decontaminate using our specialist electrostatic decontamination services. Within the specified areas, Ideal Response covered the toilets alongside all welfare areas. We completed live on-site ATP swab testing to prove the areas had been decontaminated, which was recorded and sent in a summary report after the works are completed.

Health and Safety/RAMS

What types of health and safety concerns were present on-site? – Full PPE including over suits, and respirators were used by the Ideal Response team; and to reduce any form of contamination – the team used single use rags. A full risk assessment and method statement was sent to the client prior to the team’s attendance.

Obstacles Faced

The team arrived between 2/3pm in the afternoon, having called the Project Manager to confirm attendance. No problems were recorded from the technicians on duty.

Equipment/Products

We used an ATP swab tester to measure the relative light units across the surface – and the areas initially measured around four to five hundred units. World Health Organisation guidance recommends a level of no more than 50 relative light units, and the aim of the works are to ensure the reduction of the bacterial count. We used a specialist cleaning solution applied by an electrostatic sprayer to reduce the bacterial count – and then swabbed on the finish to check those areas were reduced to the targeted levels. The Ideal Response team are proud to support the NHS – with a framework response across the UK over the next four years across the UK.
